In a shocking update following the horrific murder of a 16-year-old girl in Delhi’s Shahbad Dairy area, it has been disclosed by ANI reports citing sources that the accused, Sahil, switched off his phone and traveled via two buses to Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh after committing the heinous crime. Sahil was apprehended in Bulandshahr and will undergo questioning. The accused has been sent to police remand for two days, reported ANI.
According to investigations, Sahil, the 20-year-old suspect, was driven by anger due to his recent breakup with the victim, leading to a fight between them a day before the tragic incident. Their relationship had been strained with frequent arguments, and the girl had ceased communication with Sahil. Despite her clear refusal, he persistently pursued her and expressed a desire for reconciliation.
CCTV footage captured Sahil stabbing the girl repeatedly with a knife, even as she collapsed to the ground. He proceeded to kick her and used a nearby concrete slab to bludgeon her head. Shockingly, the footage depicted bystanders observing the gruesome scene but failing to intervene.
Local residents informed the police officer on patrol approximately ten minutes after the incident, leading to a prompt response from law enforcement authorities. During questioning, the accused provided unsatisfactory answers and attempted to mislead the police.
The police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Shahbad Dairy Police Station. Chairperson Rekha Sharma of the National Commission for Women has written to the Commissioner of Police, Delhi, urging a fair and expeditious investigation into the matter and the swift arrest of the accused. The commission has assigned a three-member team, led by Member Delina Khongdup, to oversee the case.
