The Odisha government has requested people to the next of kin to identify and claim the bodies of the deceased in the train collision incident in Balasore, reports ANI.
The deadly train incident on June 2nd claimed at least 288 passengers’ lives and injured more than 1,000. According to the state government, there are still a number of bodies to be unclaimed in various morgues. 200 bodies of victims are yet to be identified. “A lot of the bodies are assumed to belong to states where the two passenger trains originate and terminate at. Several passengers from Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and other neighbouring states frequently travel on these passenger trains, so it is expected that the majority of the bodies are likely to be of people from these states,” the government added.
The government has also posted photos of the deceased in the train accident to facilitate identification. Besides this, they also launched the helpline number ‘1929’ for extending assistance to the relatives of the victims.
On Friday, at around 7 pm, near the Bahanaga Bazar station in Balasore, The Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express is believed to have had a collision with a stationary goods train. From a different track, Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express got crashed into the derailed compartments soon after the initial crash.
Meanwhile, the restoration work is going on in full swing, informed the Ministry of Railways.
