On Wednesday night, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel stationed at the Indo-Pakistan international boundary in Amritsar successfully shot down a suspected Pakistani drone, marking the fifth such incident in the past four days.
At approximately 9:00 PM on June 7, 2023, BSF forces deployed in depth heard the buzzing sound of a drone in the vicinity of Bhaini Rajputana Village, located in the Amritsar district. “In accordance with their training, BSF personnel swiftly responded to intercept the drone,” stated the BSF in an official statement.
The drone was discovered in close proximity to Bhaini Rajputana village, prompting a joint search operation involving the BSF and the depth-deployed Police naka party. In a field near the intersection of Rajatal, Bharopal, and Daoke Tri, situated on the borders of Bhaini Rajputana Village, a broken drone was recovered.
The BSF identified the recovered drone as a quadcopter belonging to the DJI Matrice 300 RTK series.
Notably, there has been a significant rise in the smuggling of Pakistani drones into Indian territory. On June 5, a Pakistani drone carrying 3.2 kilograms of heroin was shot down by BSF forces near the Attari-Wagah border. Earlier, on June 3, security officers in Amritsar, Punjab, discovered over 5 kilograms of heroin, which was allegedly airdropped by a Pakistani drone. Additionally, the BSF successfully tracked down and shot down a Pakistani drone that violated Indian airspace in the Amritsar area of Punjab the previous month.
During the operation, the BSF personnel observed a suspicious-looking motorbike leaving Wan and ordered it to halt. However, the rider accelerated and headed towards Mari Kamboke village. Pursuing the bike, the BSF officials managed to locate and recover the abandoned motorcycle in the area.
“A packet covered in yellow sticky tape was found during the search of the cordoned-off village,” stated a spokesperson. Upon examination, it was determined that the packet contained approximately 2.5 kilograms of heroin, which is believed to have been transported by the motorcycle rider after being dropped by the drone.
