AAP to hold mega rally in Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan against Centre Ordinance

On Sunday, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will hold a major demonstration at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan to protest the Centre’s Ordinance on control over administrative services in the national capital.

Today’s event will be addressed by Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal, his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann, Delhi Minister Gopal Rai, and party MP Sanjay Singh.

Gopal Rai, the party’s Delhi convenor, will address this rally as well. Notably, famous lawyer and former Union Minister Kapil Sibal will address the gathering and discuss the ordinance’s legal and constitutional elements. Sibal has been invited to the protest by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Delhi Police enhances security around Ramlila Maidan for AAP rally

In preparation for the event, Delhi Police has increased security around Ramlila Maidan. Kejriwal launched a statewide tour on May 23 to rally opposition parties against the Ordinance.

Delhi chief minister and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal have so far met several opposition leaders including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren.

He has also met Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supremo Sharad Pawar, Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar and deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav.

The Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday, stated that the Centre’s ordinance might be rejected in Rajya Sabha if non-BJP parties banded together. He stated that this would send a clear message that the Modi administration would not be returning to power in 2024.

The ordinance was introduced to modify the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi Act, 1991, and it seeks to avoid the Supreme Court’s decision in the Centre vs. Delhi case.
