Fire Emergency at Kolkata Airport: Quick Response of Two Fire Engines Prevents Catastrophe

A fire incident has been reported at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata. Officials are yet to provide further details on the nature and extent of the incident. According to an airport official who spoke to the news agency ANI, the fire broke out in Kolkata Airport’s 3C departure terminal building. According to a report, the fire was reported near the security check-in at approximately 9:20 pm. In response, two fire engines were promptly dispatched to the location. Thankfully, officials have confirmed that no casualties were reported.

According to a police officer, the fire at the airport was entirely extinguished by 9:40 pm. As passengers rushed, airport authorities swiftly employed firefighters to extinguish the fire. The situation is under control, and the cooling process is underway. The initial investigation by officials suggests that a short circuit may have caused the fire.

The Kolkata Airport authorities released a statement via Twitter, reporting that a minor fire and smoke were detected at check-in area portal D at 2112 PM. The situation was extinguished by 2140 PM, and all passengers evacuated safely. The check-in process was suspended due to smoke in the area. However, the check-in and operation process is scheduled to resume at 1015 PM.

It is currently under suspicion that a fire resulted from a short-circuit, although a precise cause has yet to be confirmed pending a thorough investigation. Multiple accounts indicate that panic and mayhem ensued when black smoke engulfed the airport, causing passengers to flee in terror. Reports reveal that a conveyor belt was identified as the initial fire source after the Kolkata Airport attendees noticed smoke and suspected a blaze, eventually placing it near counter 15.
