During her visit to Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, President Droupadi Murmu emphasized the need for the University of Madras to enhance its investment in cutting-edge research, foster interdisciplinary studies, and promote international collaborations. President Murmu’s tour, which began on August 5, is scheduled to conclude on August 8.
A ceremonial guard of honor welcomed President Murmu at the Raj Bhavan in Chennai on Sunday. Speaking at the University of Madras’ 165th convocation, she lauded the institution for fostering a culture of research and academic excellence. President Murmu urged the university to elevate its commitment to pioneering research, interdisciplinary exploration, and global partnerships. She emphasized that the university should take a leading role in developing knowledge-based solutions to address both national and global challenges.
Earlier in the day, President Murmu highlighted the University of Madras as a model of gender equality, stressing that investing in girls’ education translates to progress for the nation. Sharing the stage with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin and Governor RN Ravi, President Murmu articulated her perspectives at the event.
Governor Ravi expressed optimism about India’s comprehensive transformation and its evolving international role, contrasting the present perception with that of a few years ago.
On August 7, President Murmu is set to inaugurate the Linear Accelerator at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) in Puducherry. Additionally, she will virtually inaugurate a 50-bed hospital in Villianur through the National AYUSH Mission. Her itinerary includes a civic reception hosted by the Government of Puducherry.
On August 8, the President’s activities will lead her to Auroville, where she will explore the ‘Matrimandir’ and inaugurate a conference centered around ‘Aspiring for Supermind in the City of Consciousness’.
