As Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar vehemently protested to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sushil Kumar Gupta wearing a garland of tomatoes within the House, Rajya Sabha was suspended until two o’clock on Wednesday.
The Chairman pointed towards the AAP member and showed his distress shortly after the House convened for the day and covered the items on the stated agenda.
There is a limit to what we can do. As the chairman of the Rajya Sabha, I am deeply saddened by the behaviour of the honourable member Mr. Sushil Gupta, he added.
The House was suspended till 2 p.m. by the chairman.
He stated, “I will speak with the Leader of the Opposition about this.”
The government has been under fire from opposition parties for raising the cost of some necessities, particularly tomatoes. Gupta entered the House with a tomato garland.
On the anniversary of Quit India, the House earlier paid respect to independence warriors.
