Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday conveyed his profound connection to the violence-stricken Manipur, describing it as a “piece of one’s heart.” He affirmed that every possible endeavor would be undertaken to reinstate tranquility in the northeastern state, allowing it to embark on a path of development.
PM Modi’s words echoed, “The north-east is our ‘jigar ka tukda’. The problems of Manipur are presented in such a manner as if they had begun in the recent past.” He reassured the people of Manipur, assuring them that peace would be reestablished promptly, as the government spared no efforts in pursuing justice against the wrongdoers.
“The country is with you; this Parliament is with you. We will together find ways to resolve this challenge, peace will be established again soon. I assure the people of Manipur that the state will again witness progress,” Modi affirmed.
The Prime Minister appealed to all opposition parties to unite in a collective endeavor to restore trust among the people of Manipur, urging them to avoid leveraging the situation for political gains. He implored the opposition to collaborate in the restoration of peace and normalcy in Manipur.
Modi urged, “I want to request the MPs of the Parliament to understand the value of this time. Come and proceed together. In this country, there have been more serious issues in the past, but we found a way to work together. Let’s come together. Take people of Manipur in confidence. Don’t take advantage of Manipur for doing politics. What has happened there in Manipur is unfortunate. Understand their pain and work for healing it. This should be our only way,” as he concluded his speech during the debate on the no-confidence motion.
He further emphasized that heinous crimes against women had occurred in Manipur, branding them as unforgivable. He assured that both the central and state governments were making every conceivable effort to ensure the sternest possible punishment for those responsible. Modi added, “I want to assure people of the country that peace will be restored and Manipur will move ahead with new self-confidence.”
Responding to the no-confidence motion debate, PM Modi noted, “If the motions would not have been moved, we (the government) could not have spoken this much.”
During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s response to the motion of no confidence, the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (I.N.D.I.A) staged a walkout from the Lok Sabha. Nonetheless, the motion was defeated in the Lok Sabha. The NDA comfortably secured victory through a voice vote, following an intense three-day battle between the ruling and opposition coalitions, focusing on the Manipur turmoil and other pressing concerns.
On July 26, the opposition initiated a no-confidence motion against the Modi government, which was taken up by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Notably, any Lok Sabha MP with the backing of 50 colleagues can introduce a motion of no confidence against the Council of Ministers. This initiates a subsequent discussion where supporters highlight government shortcomings and the Treasury Benches respond to the issues raised. The process concludes with a vote, and if successful, the government is compelled to vacate office.
