The G20 Summit taking place in New Delhi is being described as a pivotal moment for India, according to Mukesh Aghi, the President and CEO of the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum. Aghi emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has clearly outlined India’s vision for this significant event.
As India prepares to host the G20 Summit under its G20 Presidency, Mukesh Aghi, in a statement shared by the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), remarked, “India has achieved remarkable feats, including landing on the moon, and now the world’s attention is shifting to India. The G20 Summit in New Delhi represents a momentous year for India, being the fastest-growing major economy and the most populous nation worldwide.”
In his statement, Aghi underscored that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has articulated India’s vision for the summit, focusing on the crucial aspects of equitable growth and a shared future for all. This vision is exemplified by this year’s theme, “Vasudhaiva Kutumbhakam,” which translates to ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future.’
USISPF, in sharing Mukesh Aghi’s statement on social media, highlighted that India’s G20 Presidency will prioritize equitable growth, shared prosperity, and the pursuit of a more egalitarian world. Their focus will encompass critical global issues, including climate action, food security, and debt relief.
Mukesh Aghi pointed out that India’s G20 Presidency occurs at a time of considerable global economic and geopolitical challenges. He emphasized that the world looks to India to represent the interests of emerging economies and the Global South.
Aghi also welcomed the upcoming visit of US President Joe Biden to India, anticipating that the meeting between President Biden and PM Modi will further strengthen the strong bonds established during PM Modi’s State visit to the US in June.
Aghi mentioned that discussions between the two leaders will encompass various bilateral matters, including the GE fighter engine deal, recently approved by Congress, small nuclear reactors, and visa schemes to facilitate talent exchange. Importantly, they will engage in broader discussions on summit themes, ranging from climate action and food security to addressing the global debt challenge and advocating for a more equitable world.
Jake Sullivan, the National Security Advisor of the United States, confirmed President Biden’s participation in the G20 Summit in India, providing details of his schedule during the event.
Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre provided an update on the health of President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, reporting that President Biden tested negative for COVID-19 following the First Lady’s positive test. She noted that the First Lady is experiencing mild symptoms and will remain in Delaware for the week, while President Biden will adhere to CDC guidelines regarding mask usage.
India is fully prepared to host the G20 Summit, scheduled to take place in New Delhi from September 9-10. India assumed the G20 presidency on December 1 of the previous year, with approximately 200 meetings related to the G20 held in 60 cities across the country throughout the year.
The 18th G20 Heads of State and Government Summit in New Delhi will serve as the culmination of all the G20 processes and meetings held throughout the year among ministers, senior officials, and civil societies. The summit will conclude with the adoption of a G20 Leaders’ Declaration, reflecting the leaders’ commitment to the priorities discussed and agreed upon during various ministerial and working group meetings held throughout the year.
