PM Modi Extends Greetings to US President at G20 Summit Venue

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi warmly received US President Joe Biden at the Pragati Maidan’s Bharat Mandapam, the venue for the G20 summit in the national capital.

The two leaders exchanged greetings and shook hands, with PM Modi explaining the significance of the Konark wheel, a backdrop for their photos. The Konark Wheel, constructed during the 13th century under King Narasimhadeva-I’s rule, boasts 24 spokes and is integrated into India’s national flag, symbolizing India’s ancient wisdom, advanced civilization, and architectural prowess.

President Biden’s arrival in India took place a day earlier, and he was greeted at the airport by Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways and Civil Aviation Gen VK Singh (retd).

Subsequently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks with President Biden at his New Delhi residence. During their meeting, PM Modi expressed his appreciation for President Biden’s vision and commitment to strengthening the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.

This partnership is built upon shared democratic values, strategic alignments, and robust people-to-people connections, as per the Ministry of External Affairs’ press release.

Both leaders commended the progress in implementing the forward-looking and extensive outcomes of PM Modi’s historic state visit to the US in June 2023, including initiatives under the India-U.S. Initiative for Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET).

The joint statement by India and the US highlighted the sustained momentum in bilateral cooperation across various domains, including defense, trade, investment, education, health, research, innovation, culture, and people-to-people connections.

President Biden congratulated PM Modi and India on the historic landing of Chandrayaan-3 near the lunar south pole and underscored the deepening collaboration between the two nations in space exploration.

The two leaders also discussed a range of regional and global matters, emphasizing that the India-US partnership benefits not only their respective citizens but also contributes to global well-being.

Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude to President Biden for the consistent support provided by the United States to ensure the success of India’s G20 Presidency.

In June, Prime Minister Modi undertook a state visit to the United States, during which he organized a special yoga event at the UN Headquarters, engaged in bilateral discussions with US President Joe Biden at the White House, and delivered an address to the UN Congress.

The 18th G20 Summit is set to conclude tomorrow.
