Following his participation in the G20 Summit in India, US President Joe Biden set off for Vietnam on Sunday. During his Vietnam visit, he is scheduled to meet with Vietnamese General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trọng and other key leaders to explore ways to enhance collaboration between the two nations.
The US Embassy and Consulate in Vietnam had previously announced President Biden’s trip to Hanoi, emphasizing discussions on technology-focused economic growth, educational exchanges, climate change mitigation, and regional stability.
Reflecting on his three-day visit to India, which encompassed a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and G20 Summit attendance, President Biden lauded the G20 Summit’s ability to address pressing global issues, particularly those stemming from the climate crisis.
At the G20 Summit, a significant agreement was reached between India, the US, UAE, Saudi Arabia, France, Germany, Italy, and the European Union to establish the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor. President Biden described this initiative as a transformative regional investment.
Additionally, during his stay in India, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Global Biofuels Alliance, a priority under India’s G20 Presidency. This alliance involves Brazil, India, and the United States, major players in biofuel production and consumption, collaborating on biofuel development.
In a bilateral meeting, India and the US resolved their seventh and final outstanding dispute at the World Trade Organization (WTO). Both leaders acknowledged advancements in various areas, including defence, trade, investment, education, health, research, innovation, culture, and people-to-people ties.
Furthermore, they underscored the importance of nuclear energy in meeting climate and energy security needs. The leaders expressed their commitment to bolster the India-US defence partnership, emphasizing cooperation in space and artificial intelligence.
President Biden expressed support for India’s membership in the Nuclear Suppliers Group and commended India’s procurement request for General Atomics MQ-9B remotely piloted aircraft.
Concluding the meeting, both leaders emphasized the enduring friendship between their nations and its contribution to global welfare.
President Biden also paid his respects to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat and participated in a dinner hosted by President Droupadi Murmu at Bharat Mandapam during his visit to India. Additionally, he met with US Embassy staff and their families upon his arrival in New Delhi.
