Born on August 7, 1925, in Tamil Nadu’s Thanjavur district, Swaminathan’s pioneering efforts in developing high-yielding varieties of paddy were instrumental in transforming the agricultural landscape of India. His remarkable accomplishments earned him the esteemed title “Father of Economic Ecology” by the United Nations Environment Programme, reflecting his deep commitment to sustainable agriculture and ecological balance.
