A tragic incident unfolded in Balochistan’s Mastung district on Friday, resulting in the loss of at least 15 lives, including that of a police officer, and leaving over 50 individuals wounded. This devastating event is believed to have been a suicide blast, and it marks the second major explosion to rock the district in September. According to Dawn, the explosion occurred in close proximity to the Madina Mosque, where worshippers had gathered to observe Eid Miladun Nabi.
In the aftermath of the blast, Station House Officer (SHO) Javed Lehri provided a grim update, stating, “The injured are currently being transported to medical facilities, and an emergency situation has been declared in the hospitals.”
Mastung Assistant Commissioner Atta Ul Munim described the blast as “massive” in nature, and it occurred near the Madina Mosque just before a scheduled procession. He explained, “People were preparing to participate in the procession,” as reported by Geo News.
Tragically, among the casualties, the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Nawaz Gashkori from Mastung was also reported to have lost his life. Those critically injured in the explosion are being urgently transferred to Quetta, with emergency protocols activated across the city’s medical facilities, as conveyed by Provincial Caretaker Information Minister Jan Achakzai.
Sindh Interim Chief Minister Maqbool Baqar swiftly condemned the tragic event, with his spokesperson issuing a statement on his behalf. The chief minister declared, “Those responsible for the loss of innocent lives are the enemies of humanity.”
Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan (JUP) leader Maulana Owais Noorani expressed his deep sorrow in a social media post, stating, “I am deeply saddened by the news of the fatalities and injuries.” The political leader, who previously served as a special assistant to the prime minister, strongly denounced those behind the blast, referring to them as “wretched beasts.”
This heartbreaking incident in Mastung comes on the heels of another blast earlier in the month, which left 11 people injured, including JUI-F leader Hafiz Hamdullah. Mobile phone footage broadcast on television captured the harrowing moment when Hamdullah, covered in blood, was assisted by two individuals. Mastung Assistant Commissioner Attaul Muneem confirmed that 11 individuals were injured in that incident.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Peshawar, a Frontier Constabulary (FC) official lost his life, and eight others, including two civilians, sustained injuries in a blast. The explosion targeted a vehicle of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa FC’s Mohmand Rifles regiment near Prime Hospital Complex on Warsak Road.
Warsak Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Arshad Khan revealed that the vehicle, en route from Machni to Peshawar, was struck around 10:30 am (local time). In total, one FC official was killed, and six FC officials and two civilians were wounded, as per Dawn’s report.
