The Indian High Commission has reported the incident to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the Metropolitan Police urging action against culprits.

Overseas Friends of BJP Member Urges Action After Indian Diplomat’s Entry Denied at Glasgow Gurudwara

Following the incident where Indian High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami, was denied entry to a Gurudwara in Scotland, Kuldeep Shekhawat, the president of Overseas Friends of BJP-United Kingdom and an executive member of Ram Mandir, Southall, has urged the British government to investigate the situation thoroughly. He called for a comprehensive examination of why this incident occurred and who is responsible for it.

In his statement, Shekhawat urged the British government to take decisive action against Khalistani elements seeking to disrupt peace and communal harmony in the UK. He emphasized that members of the Indian diaspora in the UK are deeply concerned about the incident in Glasgow and the potential divisive tactics employed by Khalistanis to create mistrust between Hindu and Sikh communities.

Shekhawat condemned the actions of these Khalistani elements, stating that they aim to undermine peaceful coexistence among Indian communities in the UK. He strongly urged the British government to take the most stringent measures against such elements that threaten the peace and communal harmony of the country.

Regarding the incident itself, Shekhawat pointed out what he deemed a security lapse on the part of the Scottish police. He emphasized the importance of treating diplomats, especially the High Commissioner of India, with the utmost respect and providing them with adequate security during their travels.

He suggested a connection between the incident in Glasgow and the larger context of the Khalistan movement, referencing the case of Jaggi Johal, who has been arrested in India. According to Shekhawat, individuals disguised as trekkers had been waiting for the High Commissioner’s arrival at the Gurudwara, and the Scottish police were conspicuously absent from the scene.

Shekhawat called for improved security measures for diplomats in the UK, emphasizing that diplomats should be safeguarded and respected during their visits. He highlighted the need for a thorough investigation into the security lapses during the incident.

The Indian High Commission in London issued a statement, revealing that individuals from outside Scotland intentionally disrupted a planned interaction involving the Gurudwara Committee, the High Commissioner, and the Consul General of India. The disruption led to threats and abuse directed at the organizers and prompted the High Commissioner and Consul General to leave the premises to avoid potential altercations.

The Indian High Commission reported the incident to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the Metropolitan Police. Multiple community organizations, including the organizers, expressed regret over the incident and urged authorities to take action against those responsible.

Additionally, Scotland Police responded to the disturbance, which occurred near the Gurudwara on Albert Drive in Glasgow. An ongoing inquiry is underway to ascertain the full details of the incident, with no reported injuries.

In summary, the incident involving the Indian High Commissioner’s visit to a Gurudwara in Scotland has raised concerns about security, Khalistani elements, and communal harmony, prompting calls for thorough investigations and decisive actions by the British government.
