In the highly anticipated clash between India and Pakistan in the ongoing World Cup, the toss fell in favor of India, prompting the team to choose fielding as their strategy for the marquee encounter at the stadium. India had already demonstrated their mettle with victories over Australia and Afghanistan in the initial matches of the tournament, while Pakistan was riding high on their own momentum, securing two wins in as many matches.
With the return of Shubman Gill in place of Ishan Kishan for the Indian side, the team appeared poised for a strong performance. Meanwhile, Pakistan decided to maintain the same lineup that had secured a triumph against Sri Lanka, aiming to continue their winning streak.
Addressing the significance of the decision to field first, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma underscored the influence of dew on the playing conditions and the exhilarating atmosphere pulsating through the stadium. “We will bowl first, cannot get bigger than this, fantastic atmosphere,” expressed Sharma, encapsulating the enthusiasm and energy permeating the match.

Echoing the sentiment, Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam conveyed his team’s eagerness to take on the field first, citing their current winning streak and the pivotal role of the intense practice sessions in their preparations. “We also wanted to bowl first. We have had good two wins and momentum and confidence are high,” Azam expressed, emphasizing the team’s focus and determination to continue their successful run in the tournament.
As the teams geared up for the crucial match, the Indian playing XI included Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (Wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj.
On the other hand, Pakistan’s playing XI comprised Abdullah Shafique, Imam-ul-Haq, Babar Azam (c), Mohammad Rizwan (w), Saud Shakeel, Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Afridi, and Haris Rauf, signifying the strength and depth of both sides as they prepared to battle it out on the field.
