Amidst suspense and anticipation, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) central observers Sarbananda Sonowal and Arjun Munda have arrived in Raipur from New Delhi to address the ongoing speculation surrounding the party’s Chief Ministerial candidate in Chhattisgarh.
The BJP observers are expected to convene a meeting with the newly elected legislators to discuss and finalize the chief ministerial candidate for the state. Union Health Minister and BJP’s Chhattisgarh co-incharge, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, have also joined the discussions in Raipur.
In an effort to streamline the selection process, the BJP had earlier announced central observers for the recently won states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Rajya Sabha MP Suresh Pandey, and Vinod Tavde, National Secretary General, have been appointed as observers in Rajasthan. For Madhya Pradesh, Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar, K Laxman, National President of OBC Morcha, and Aasha Lakda, National Secretary, have been entrusted with the responsibility. In Chhattisgarh, alongside Munda and Sonowal, BJP leader Dushyant Gautam has been appointed as an observer.
Union Minister Arjun Munda assured that the Chief Minister candidate would be revealed during the legislative party meeting. “It is time to form the government after getting the majority. There will be a meeting of the legislative party, and the leader will be chosen. The other formalities will be completed soon,” said Arjun Munda.
However, the delay in announcing Chief Ministers in the three states has drawn criticism from the opposition. Rajasthan’s caretaker Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot, expressed his discontent, stating, “There is no discipline in this party,” and questioned the BJP’s handling of the situation. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also criticized the BJP, alleging that only Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are making decisions, likening the process to a game of “musical chairs.”
As the BJP navigates the post-election landscape, the opposition’s scrutiny heightens, and citizens await the resolution of the leadership question in Chhattisgarh. The election results in these states have reshaped the political landscape, with the BJP securing a resounding mandate and the Congress grappling with a setback in the Hindi heartland.
