In response to the recent ambush on two Army vehicles by heavily armed terrorists in the forested terrain of Dera ki Gali, additional security personnel have been deployed in the Poonch district. The ongoing search operation in the challenging terrain aims to locate the perpetrators responsible for the attack that claimed the lives of four Army personnel last week.
Officials have confirmed the deployment of additional forces in the Bafliaz area of Poonch district to reinforce security measures. The ambush on Thursday resulted in the tragic loss of four Army personnel, with three others sustaining injuries in the attack.
A wreath-laying ceremony was held on Sunday in Rajouri to bid farewell to the fallen soldiers, namely Naik Birender Singh, Rifleman Gautam Kumar, Naik Karan Kumar, and Rifleman Chandan Kumar. The tearful send-off underscored the solemnity of the occasion as the nation mourns the sacrifice of its brave defenders.
In response to the incident, the Indian Army issued a statement on Saturday, announcing an inquiry into the deaths of three civilians in the Poonch-Rajouri sector where the terrorists carried out the ambush. The Army, in a post on social media platform X, stated, “Search operations by the security forces are continuing in the area of operations after the incident of December 21. Reports have been received regarding three civilian deaths in the area. The matter is under investigation.”
“The Indian Army stands committed to extending full support and cooperation in the conduct of investigations,” the statement emphasized.
The ambush occurred on December 21 when terrorists opened fire on two Army vehicles passing through Dera Ki Gali in Rajouri’s Poonch region. In response, the jawans retaliated promptly, leading to a fierce encounter. The area has since been under intense scrutiny as security forces intensify joint operations against the terrorists.
“Our troops are in the process of intensifying the joint operation against terrorists underway in the area since last evening. The operations are taking place in the 48 Rashtriya Rifles area,” stated an Army official.
As the investigation progresses, the focus remains on ensuring the safety and security of the region, with the Indian Army determined to bring the perpetrators to justice and prevent any further threats to national security.
