BSF in Punjab Takes Down Total 100 Pak Drones in 2023

Border Security Force (BSF) announced on Tuesday that it has successfully shot down or recovered 100 Pakistani drones used by anti-national elements attempting to smuggle narcotics, arms, and ammunition into Indian territory. The BSF Punjab Frontier outlined its accomplishments in a series of posts on social media platform X.

According to the BSF, its personnel have implemented a ‘three-pronged strategy’ to combat the illicit movement of drugs and other narcotic substances across the border. This approach includes successfully apprehending smugglers who were facilitating the smuggling of narcotics through drones.

“Till now, in 2023, BSF Punjab has successfully shot down or recovered 100 Pakistani drones being used by anti-national elements to smuggle narcotics, arms, and ammunition into Indian territory,” stated the BSF Punjab Frontier in its posts on X.

Apart from drone recoveries, the BSF highlighted its success in apprehending smugglers involved in facilitating the smuggling through drones. The force emphasized its commitment to a three-fold strategy, aiming to curtail drug supply, raise awareness against drug abuse, and empower the youth with skills for meaningful employment opportunities.

In a recent incident on Monday, the BSF thwarted another smuggling attempt through a drone in Amritsar, seizing 434 grams of heroin wrapped with adhesive tape. Troopers launched a search operation after a Pakistani drone violated Indian airspace. The BSF troops swiftly responded, recovering the contraband dropped by the drone.

“On 25 December 2023, during morning hrs, on specific information of BSF regarding smuggling through drone on the outskirts of Vill – Ranian & Rear Kakkar, District – Amritsar, an Operation was planned,” the BSF stated in a post.

The vigilant BSF party, responding to the drone intrusion, recovered a packet weighing 434 grams suspected to be heroin, wrapped with transparent adhesive tape, along with a ring attached for hanging with the drone.

These successes underscore the BSF’s continued efforts to secure the border and combat illegal activities. The force remains dedicated to curbing smuggling attempts and ensuring the safety and security of Indian territory.
