Lavrov – India, Russia Call for Fair Political, Economic System

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov highlighted on Wednesday the ongoing and consistent progress in the long-standing relationship between India and Russia. He emphasized the mutual interest of both New Delhi and Moscow in fostering an "open and fair political and economic system" for all. Lavrov commended the foundation laid by the agreements between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin, establishing a reliable India-Russia relationship.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov highlighted on Wednesday the ongoing and consistent progress in the long-standing relationship between India and Russia. He emphasized the mutual interest of both New Delhi and Moscow in fostering an “open and fair political and economic system” for all. Lavrov commended the foundation laid by the agreements between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin, establishing a reliable India-Russia relationship.

During his opening statements at the bilateral meeting with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar in Moscow, Lavrov pointed out the enduring quality of the India-Russia relationship, evident in their multilateral collaboration within the UN, BRICS, SCO, and the G20. Emphasizing the commitment to an equitable political and economic system, Lavrov expressed the leaders’ dedication to ensuring efficient compliance with decisions made by their respective authorities.

Lavrov underscored the shared principles of respect for the United Nations and its charter, emphasizing the joint pursuit of an open and fair political and economic system. He acknowledged the broad spectrum of relations set by the leaders of both nations and highlighted the close cooperation between foreign ministries, other government ministries, and the Security Council. Lavrov emphasized the importance of exploring additional measures to enhance the efficiency of decision implementation.

In response, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reiterated the strength and stability of the India-Russia relationship, characterized by a special and privileged strategic partnership. He mentioned the frequent interactions between Prime Minister Modi and President Putin and anticipated robust Russian participation at the Vibrant Gujarat meeting in January. Jaishankar indicated that the focus of the meeting would be on bilateral cooperation across various spheres, aligning with evolving circumstances and requirements. The discussions would also cover the international strategic situation, conflicts, and tensions.
