Adani Group Announces Major Support for Chess Prodigy Praggnanandhaa

In a significant development for Indian chess, the Adani Group has pledged its support to 18-year-old Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa, considered one of the brightest talents in the country. The announcement came from Adani Group Chairman Mr Gautam Adani, who expressed the conglomerate’s commitment to bolstering the careers of promising sportspersons and contributing to India’s success on the global stage.

Praggnanandhaa, who made headlines by becoming the world’s youngest chess player to reach the World Cup final in 2023, is set to receive a major boost from the Adani Group’s support. Chairman Gautam Adani applauded the young chess ace’s remarkable progress and efficiency in the sport, stating that the Adani Group is wholeheartedly devoted to supporting athletes in their quest to bring glory to the nation.

“We are extremely proud to support the dynamic Praggnanandhaa. There is nothing more noble than representing the nation and winning laurels at the highest levels, and the Adani Group is keen on ensuring that my country does well on the global stage,” said Mr Adani.

Praggnanandhaa, known for his speed and precision on the chessboard, expressed his gratitude for the support, stating, “Whenever I play, my sole aim is to win more laurels for the nation. I would like to thank the Adani Group for putting their trust in my abilities.”

The young chess prodigy has been making waves in the chess world since he started playing at the age of 5. In 2022, Praggnanandhaa gained attention by defeating Magnus Carlsen multiple times, drawing the spotlight to India’s progress in the sport. He also won the silver medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games in 2023, adding to his impressive list of achievements.

In 2018, Praggnanandhaa became India’s youngest Grandmaster at the age of 12, and he is the fifth-youngest person ever to achieve this title. Notably, his elder sister R. Vaishali is also a Grandmaster, making them the world’s first-ever brother-sister GM duo.

The Adani Group’s support for Praggnanandhaa falls under its flagship #GarvHai initiative, which has already backed 28 talented players across various sports, including boxing, wrestling, tennis, javelin throw, shooting, running, shotput, brisk walking, and archery. Notable beneficiaries of the initiative include Commonwealth Games gold medallist wrestlers Ravi Kumar Dahiya and Deepak Punia, as well as boxer Amit Panghal, who secured silver medals at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 2023 Asian Games.

The Adani Group, headquartered in Ahmedabad, is the largest and fastest-growing portfolio of diversified businesses in India. With interests ranging from logistics, resources, and power generation to renewable energy, the group follows the core philosophy of ‘Nation Building’ and ‘Growth with Goodness.’ The conglomerate is committed to protecting the environment and improving communities through its CSR programmes based on the principles of sustainability, diversity, and shared values.
