The plummeting temperatures in Delhi have driven the city’s peak power demand to a record high of 5701 MW at 10:49 am on Friday, the highest ever for the winter months. Breaking the previous winter peaks recorded on January 10 and January 5, this surge reflects an over 11% increase in peak power demand since January 1. BSES Rajdhani (BRPL) and BSES Yamuna (BYPL) efficiently met the peak power demand of 2484 MW and 1185 MW, respectively. Notably, up to 60% of the maximum ‘winter’ power demand in the BSES area will be fulfilled by green power, including solar, hydropower, wind power, and waste-to-energy sources. This achievement highlights the success of long-term agreements with power plants and the incorporation of over 2000 MW of green power, contributing to a reliable power supply during the winter months. The innovative use of statistical forecasting models and advanced weather forecasting solutions, including Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, has played a pivotal role in meeting the power challenges.
