Parliamentary Committee Set to Submit Report on ‘Countering Global Terrorism at Regional and International Levels’ to Rajya Sabha

The Rajya Sabha is set to receive a comprehensive report on ‘Countering Global Terrorism at Regional and International Levels,’ crafted by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs (Seventeenth Lok Sabha). The document is scheduled to be presented in the Upper House as it convenes for the day at 11 am.

Rajya Sabha MPs Ashok Kumar Mittal and Prakash Javadekar will lay a copy of the Twenty-Eighth Report of the Department-Related Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, providing insights into strategies for addressing the terrorism threat on both domestic and international fronts. These reports hold significance as they offer recommendations to the government, influencing policy decisions.

Parliamentary committees, comprising MPs, are instrumental in dealing with the vast array of issues that the Indian Parliament faces. The reports produced by these committees help ensure legislative oversight of executive actions, even though they are not binding on the government.

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs, a department-related standing committee (DRSC), is constituted by the Parliament of India for the legislative oversight of foreign policy and decision-making within the Ministry of External Affairs.

In addition to the terrorism report, Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav is expected to introduce the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Amendment Bill, 2024, in the Rajya Sabha, aiming to amend the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974.

Later in the day, the House will resume discussions on the motion of thanks on the President’s address. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is also slated to present statements showing the Supplementary Demands for Grants, 2023-24, and the Supplementary Demands for Grants in respect of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir (with Legislature) for the year 2023-24. Additionally, statements of estimated receipts and expenditure (2024-25) for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir (with Legislature), along with a statement under the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Act, 2006, will be laid on the table by the Finance Minister in both English and Hindi.
