Delhi: Father and Son Injured by Robbers in Failed Robbery

A harrowing incident unfolded in the Sonia Vihar area of Delhi on Sunday night, as four assailants on motorcycles attempted to rob a jeweler and his son, only to leave them injured when their robbery bid failed, as per police reports.

The victims, identified as Mohit Pandey (26) and his father Rajesh Pandey (58), residents of Sonia Vihar and owners of a jewelry shop located in the Main Market at 3rd Pushta, Sonia Vihar, were targeted by the assailants in a brazen attack.

According to police sources, the incident occurred around 9:41 pm on Sunday when a distress call was received by the PCR regarding gunfire at a jewelry shop in PS Sonia Vihar.

Upon arrival, the police discovered that the assailants had attempted to snatch a bag belonging to Mohit Pandey, which reportedly contained Rs 3,000 in cash, along with some silver jewelry and keys. When their attempts were thwarted, the assailants resorted to violence, assaulting both Mohit and his father Rajesh with pistol butts.

In a bid to flee the scene, the assailants fired shots into the air before speeding away on their motorcycles. The victims, though fortunate to survive the ordeal, sustained minor head injuries and were promptly transported to JPC Hospital for treatment.

The aftermath of the incident revealed the presence of three empty shells and three live rounds (7.65 mm bore) alongside a magazine at the scene of the crime. Authorities are currently combing through CCTV footage in the vicinity for further leads. Additionally, a crime team and an FSL team have visited the spot, while local witnesses are being questioned as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police have assured that efforts to apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice are underway as the investigation progresses.
