Confirming the speculations that had circulated for some time, S. Vijayadharani, the Congress MLA representing Vilavancode constituency in Kanyakumari district, officially joined the BJP in New Delhi. This event took place in the presence of Union Minister of State L. Murugan, BJP national secretary Aravind Menon, and BJP national co-in charge of Tamil Nadu P. Sudhakar Reddy on Saturday. Welcoming Vijayadharani into the BJP, State President K. Annamalai conveyed in his statement on X that her inclusion would “bolster the path of TN BJP in achieving the political transformation in Tamil Nadu.” He further noted her admiration for the capable leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In her correspondence to Congress President Malikarjun Kharge, she expressed her decision to step down from the primary membership and associated positions within the party due to personal reasons. Vijayadharani, a three-time MLA from Vilavancode constituency, articulated her belief that the Congress lacked space for women and highlighted the BJP’s positive treatment of its female members. Additionally, she pointed out the Congress’s numerous internal challenges while praising Modi for offering inspirational leadership.
