Sources close to the party hinted at imminent announcements, especially for Telangana, where the names of 4-5 candidates, including three current MPs who may get tickets to contest again, are expected to be revealed soon. The meeting also included strategic discussions with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and leaders from states like Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Kerala, Gujarat, Jharkhand, and Uttarakhand, indicating a pan-India approach to candidate selection.
In Assam, where BJP aims to contest on eleven seats, the committee discussed potential candidates, with Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal likely to contest from Dibrugarh and State Minister Rameshwar Teli being considered for the Rajya Sabha. The committee also initiated discussions on candidates for seats in Jammu and plans to deliberate on Kashmir in the next meeting. Additionally, the party is making strategic decisions for two to three seats in Delhi and has finalized candidates for one seat in Goa, with another still under consideration.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ambitiously set the slogan of ‘Crossing 400’ for this year’s Lok Sabha elections, aiming for the BJP to secure more than 370 seats on its own. This target reflects the party’s confidence and its comprehensive strategy to not only maintain but significantly extend its electoral footprint across India.
