PM Modi To Contest From Varanasi Again: BJP Announced Its 1st List

The Bhartiya Janata Party has released its first set of candidates list today (March 2) ahead of the Lok Sabha Polls 2024. The list held all the prominent leaders. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be running for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Varanasi. The party revealed its initial list of 195 candidates for the elections, which comprises 34 ministers.

This marks PM Modi’s third candidacy for the Varanasi seat. Previously, he emerged victorious in 2014 by defeating AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal and secured another win in 2019 against Samajwadi Party’s Shalini Yadav.

According to BJP National General Secretary Vinod Tawde, among the 195 candidates listed initially, there are 28 women, 27 from the SC category, 18 from the ST category, and 57 from the OBC category.

Tawde additionally revealed that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will run for the elections from Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya is set to contest from the Porbandar seat. The party has unveiled candidates for 15 out of the 26 seats in Gujarat.

Meanwhile, former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has been nominated to run from the Vidisha seat in the state, while Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia will vie for the Guna seat.
