Users faced issues such as being unexpectedly logged out of Facebook, and upon attempting to re-login, received error messages like “Something went wrong. Please try again.” Downdetector, a monitoring service, noted a significant increase in error reports shortly after 10:30 a.m. ET on Tuesday, with over 500,000 reports received by 11 a.m.
Moreover, Instagram users found that their feeds were not updating. The technical problems also affected Meta’s Messaging platform and Threads, its app similar to Twitter that was launched the previous year.
Messages like “Please log in again,” “Session expired,” and “Couldn’t refresh feed” were among the notifications encountered while using the Facebook and Instagram applications. These disruptions began around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
According to Downdetector.com, a website that monitors outages, Meta Platforms’ Facebook and Instagram experienced downtime for tens of thousands of users on Tuesday. The website recorded over 300,000 outage reports for Facebook and more than 20,000 reports for Instagram. Downdetector compiles outage status reports from various sources, including users, to track such incidents.
What Did META Respond:
“In response to the difficulties users are encountering in accessing our services, we are actively addressing the issue,” stated Meta spokesperson Andy Stone in a post on X social media platform.
Few users speculate that their id’s are hacked.
