On International Women’s Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a significant reduction in LPG cylinder prices by Rs 100, aiming to alleviate the financial burden on families and enhance well-being and environmental health. In a social media post on X on Friday, PM Modi stated, “On the occasion of Women’s Day, our government has made a decision to lower the price of LPG cylinders by Rs. 100, benefiting millions of households nationwide and supporting our Nari Shakti.” He further explained that the decision to make cooking gas more accessible is part of the government’s efforts to ensure the health of families and the environment, aligning with the commitment to women’s empowerment and improving their quality of life. PM Modi also took the opportunity to extend Women’s Day greetings, praising the resilience and achievements of women in various sectors. “Our administration is dedicated to women’s empowerment, demonstrated through initiatives in education, entrepreneurship, agriculture, and technology, reflecting our achievements over the past decade,” he added on X. Highlighting the government’s efforts in providing access to clean cooking fuel, it was mentioned that under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, 14.17 crore free LPG refills have been distributed nationwide. “From April to December 2020, under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package, up to three free refills were given to PMUY beneficiaries, totaling 14.17 crore free refills across the country,” said Rameswar Teli, Minister of state in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, in a written response in the Rajya Sabha.
