The legend actor Kamal Haasan led party MNM (Makkal Needhi Maiam) has formally allied with the ruling DMK-led coalition in Tamil Nadu, indicating their endorsement for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The alliance was cemented as the DMK assigned MNM one seat for the 2025 Rajya Sabha polls, suggesting a fruitful partnership. This move arrives amid widespread speculation regarding Haasan’s party’s participation in the Parliamentary elections.
“Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) is not contesting (the Lok Sabha elections), the party will support and campaign. One seat for MNM in Rajya Sabha (in 2025),” says the party’s general secretary Arunachalam after meeting with DMK. https://t.co/tI0idTdf4g pic.twitter.com/Zlp8EsrL1K

The agreement was reached at the DMK headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, where Haasan and DMK President M K Stalin finalized the deal. Haasan emphasized that MNM’s alliance with DMK is founded on a dedication to the nation rather than personal interests. MNM has pledged their complete support to the coalition, signaling a unified approach for the upcoming elections.
As per the arrangement, MNM will actively participate in campaign-related activities across Tamil Nadu’s 39 Lok Sabha seats and the sole constituency in Puducherry, demonstrating a joint effort towards a shared objective.
Speaking to the media, Kamal Haasan stated, “My party, MNM, and I will not be contesting in this election (the Lok Sabha elections). However, we will extend full cooperation to this alliance. We have come together not merely for positions but for the betterment of the nation.”
