British Legacy Continues: Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi Remarks on ‘Break India’ Project

Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi delivered a scathing critique, asserting that the denial of Lord Ram’s existence and India’s unified identity is an assault on Tamil culture and identity. Speaking at a book launch event in Chennai, Governor Ravi indirectly targeted DMK MP A Raja for his controversial remarks, denouncing attempts to undermine India’s cultural heritage.

Governor Ravi lamented the irony of Tamil Nadu, a land rich in spiritual traditions and historical significance, struggling to affirm its identity within the broader Indian context. He attributed this struggle to the lingering effects of the “break India” project initiated by the British colonial rulers, which sought to undermine India’s unity and cultural diversity.

Highlighting the collaboration of certain individuals with the British colonialists, Governor Ravi criticized efforts to deny India’s status as a nation and the existence of Lord Ram. He warned that such denial not only undermines Tamil culture but also erodes the collective identity of the Indian nation.

The Governor’s remarks come in response to recent controversies stirred by political leaders questioning the unity of India and dismissing the significance of Lord Ram. DMK MP A Raja’s remarks, particularly regarding the chanting of slogans like “Jai Sri Ram” and “Bharat Mata ki Jai,” have ignited heated debates across Tamil Nadu and beyond.

In a similar vein, previous statements made by DMK leaders, including Udhayanidhi Stalin, have sparked controversy by likening Sanatana Dharma to diseases and advocating for its eradication. Such statements have drawn condemnation and legal action from various quarters for their perceived disrespect towards India’s cultural and religious heritage.

Governor Ravi’s forceful condemnation underscores the importance of preserving India’s cultural diversity and unity while acknowledging the rich tapestry of traditions that contribute to the nation’s collective identity.
