“Amit Shah Claims Congress Opposition to CAA Stemmed from Appeasement and Vote-Bank Politics”

During a social media warriors’ meet in Secunderabad, Union Home Minister Amit Shah asserted that the consistent opposition by the Congress towards the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) was rooted in appeasement politics and the pursuit of vote bank interests. Shah emphasized that the framers of the Constitution had pledged citizenship to refugees fleeing persecution in Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Pakistan during India’s independence. He stated, “We had committed to enacting the CAA. Despite this, the Congress persistently opposed it, driven by appeasement and vote bank politics.” Shah highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative to grant citizenship to Hindus, Buddhists, Jains, Sikhs, and others, portraying it as a gesture of honor towards them.

The Union Home Ministry recently issued regulations for the implementation of the CAA, just before the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections schedule. The legislation aims to confer Indian citizenship upon persecuted non-Muslim migrants, including Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, and Christians, who migrated from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan before December 31, 2014.

Shah also accused the Congress of boycotting the inauguration ceremony of the Ram Temple due to its pursuit of vote bank politics. He highlighted the BJP’s manifesto promise of constructing a grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya and criticized the Congress for obstructing this agenda for 70 years.

Furthermore, Shah contended that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the BJP government has maintained a corruption-free administration, providing political stability to the nation. He underscored the absence of corruption allegations against Modi, contrasting it with accusations leveled against previous governments.
