Former United States President Donald Trump’s presence on Twitter, now known as X, was reinstated in November 2022 after Tesla and SpaceX Chief Elon Musk acquired the microblogging platform for a staggering $43 billion. This move came nearly two years after Trump’s ban following the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol. However, Trump has remained inactive on the platform, preferring to communicate with his supporters through his own social media network, Truth Social.
Recently, a user on X advocated for Trump’s return, prompting Musk to respond with a simple “Yes.” However, Musk expressed skepticism regarding the necessity of Trump’s return, stating, “I don’t see any reason for it.”
Musk’s comment sparked various reactions among X users. Some expressed doubts about Trump’s ability to return, citing his significant investment in Truth Social. Others expressed hope that Musk had discussed the matter with Trump directly.
Despite the mixed responses, Elon Musk previously reinstated Trump’s Twitter account after conducting a poll on the platform. Following the 24-hour poll, which saw over 15 million participants, Musk declared, “The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated.” However, while the majority voted in favor of reinstating Trump’s account, a significant portion remained opposed.
Trump, who had over 88 million followers before his suspension, initially stated that he would not return to Twitter but would instead focus on Truth Social. Speaking at an event of the Republican Jewish Coalition in Las Vegas via video, Trump expressed appreciation for Musk’s poll but appeared reluctant to return to X, emphasizing his commitment to Truth Social.
