The Election Commission is set to announce the schedule for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls later today. In a statement on X, the poll body mentioned that the dates for the general elections and some state assembly elections will be revealed shortly.
The current tenure of the Lok Sabha ends on June 16, and a new House must be constituted before then. Similarly, the assemblies of Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and Odisha will also reach the end of their tenure in June.
Approximately 97 crore people are eligible to vote in the forthcoming polls.
During the previous parliamentary elections, the BJP secured 303 seats and is now vying for a third consecutive term, while the Congress managed to win 52 seats. However, it fell short of obtaining enough seats to claim the Leader of the Opposition position in the Lok Sabha.
The upcoming elections hold significant importance for the Opposition bloc INDIA, as they strive to halt the BJP’s dominance.
