Mumbai Indians have announced the addition of England pacer Luke Wood as a replacement for the injured Australian fast bowler Jason Behrendorff for the upcoming Indian Premier League 2024 season.
In a statement, Mumbai Indians stated, “Luke Wood has been named as the replacement for the injured Jason Behrendorff for IPL 2024.”
Wood, a left-arm fast bowler, has represented England in 5 T20Is and 2 ODIs, claiming eight wickets in T20Is. He will join MI for Rs 50 lakh.
During the previous season, Behrendorff played a crucial role in MI’s pace attack, contributing with 14 wickets in 12 matches at an average of 27.64, helping MI reach the playoffs despite the absence of key bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer.
The 17th edition of IPL is set to commence on March 22, with defending champions Chennai Super Kings facing Royal Challengers Bangalore at MA Chidambaram Stadium.
In another exciting fixture, last year’s runners-up Gujarat Titans will take on Mumbai Indians on March 24 in Ahmedabad. This match has generated significant buzz due to star all-rounder Hardik Pandya’s return to MI after successful seasons with Gujarat Titans, including winning the title as captain in their debut season in 2022. Pandya will lead MI this season, taking over from Rohit Sharma, while Shubman Gill has assumed the captaincy for Gujarat Titans.
