Ram Charan, who turned 39 on Wednesday (March 27), has been an integral part of the Telugu film industry for nearly 17 years. The ‘Global Star’ enjoys a strong fan following because of his impressive screen presence, effortless dance style and sincere performances.
Charan, Chiraneevi’s son, followed in his legendary father’s footsteps when he made his big screen debut with Chirutha (2007). He then found a foothold in the industry, emerging as everyone’s favourite ‘Mega Power Star’. Here is a look at the biggest highlights of Charan’s professional journey.
Chirutha (2007)
‘Chirutha’ , directed by Puri Jagannadh, was an action-drama that revolved around a young man’s attempts at tracking down a gangster who killed his parents. Charan impressed fans with his intense body language and won a Nandi Special Jury Award for Best Performance in Debut Film. Incidentally, ‘Chirutha’ also marked Neha Sharma’s big screen debut.
Magadheera (2009)
SS Rajamouli’s ‘Magadheera’, a grand reincarnation saga with an emotional storyline, collected Rs 100 crore at the worldwide box office and propelled Charan to superstardom. The young star’s chemistry with Kajal Aggarwal added a new dimension to the film, establishing it as the choice of the masses. Charan was equally good in the horse-riding scenes, which were an integral part of the narrative.
Yevadu (2014)
Ram Charan was at his fiercest best when he teamed up with Allu Arjun for Vamsi Paidipally’s action drama ‘Yevadu’. The film centred on the events that unfold when the lives of two strangers get intertwined following a series of brutal events. Charan delivered an intense performance that captured his character’s anger and vulnerability. ‘Yevadu’ emerged as one of the big hits of 2014.
Rangasthalam (2018)
Ram Charan experimented with his reel image when he played Chitti Babu, a simpleton from a village, in Sukumar’s rooted and realistic action drama ‘Rangasthalam’. The actor carried off the action scenes and the emotional sequences with equal ease. His electrifying chemistry with Samantha, who played the village Belle Ramalaksmi, added to the flick’s recall value.
RRR (2022)
‘RRR’ featured Charan as Alluri Sita Rama Raju, a legendary freedom fighter, and propelled him to international stardom. The actor brought his A-game to the table in the fight scene with Jr NTR, who played Komaram Bheem, as well as the emotional climatic sequences. RRR is currently the third highest-grossing Indian film worldwide after Prabhas’ ‘Baahubali 2’ and the Aamir Khan-led ‘Dangal’.
