Kareena Kapoor Khan’s ‘Crew’, which hit screens on March 29, has opened to a good response at the box office as per initial estimates. According to Joginder Tuteja, a trade analyst, the day 1 collection is expected to be between Rs 9 crore and Rs 10 crore.
“For Crew, I think, we are looking at a start of between Rs 9 crore and Rs 10 crore,” he told News X.
The film might match the opening day performance of ‘Veere Di Wedding’, one of Kareena’s most popular female-driven films, if these estimates hold . The Shashanka Ghosh-directed buddy comedy raked in nearly Rs 10 crore on its first day at the box office in 2018.
‘Crew’ has been released alongside the Hollywood biggie ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’, directed by Adam Wingard. The creature feature is expected to take a solid start in India given the immense popularity of the titular monsters. This, however, is unlikely to affect ‘Crew’ as the initial audience response to the heist-comedy is positive.
“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire won’t affect Crew because the Hindi film has taken a start already and with good reports coming in, it will now continue to do well,” Tuteja added.
‘Crew’, directed by Rajesh A Krishnan of Lootcase fame, centres on three air hostesses who work for nearly-bankrupt airlines. Their lives go haywire when they find themselves amid a scam.
The film features Tabu and Kriti Sanon as the parallel leads. The cast includes Diljit Dosanjh, Saswata, and Kulbhushan Kharbanda. Kapil Sharma makes a special appearance in the movie.
‘Crew’ is produced by Rhea Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Ektaa Kapoor, and Digvijay Purohit. Reliance Entertainment is its distributor.
‘Crew’ is Kareena’s first release of the year. She garnered attention last year with her work in The Buckingham Murders and Jaane Jaan. Bebeo will next be seen in ‘Singham Again’, directed by Rohit Shetty. The actioner is headlined by Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, and Ranveer Singh. Deepika Padukone is also part of the cast.
‘Crew’ was released in theatres on Friday, March 29.
