After being diagnosed with a heart condition and given a prognosis of just two years, she tragically passed away a mere eight weeks following her 70th birthday. “They enjoyed travelling and socializing. She was a very generous person helping family and friends without question. Her wish was for her ashes to be sent into space”. Said her sister Jean while speaking to the Jam Press.
In her pursuit to realize her ultimate desire, Mrs. Garcia stumbled upon Aura Flights, a Sheffield-based company specializing in space memorials.

Carrying out her celestial desire, Garcia’s ashes commenced their ultimate voyage in January 2023. A photograph joined her on this extraordinary ascent, enabling loved ones to observe the moment through a live camera feed, according to the New York Post. Elevated by a specialized stratospheric balloon, the unique vessel transporting her remains ascended to an altitude of 100,000 feet above Earth.
“It was emotional, but special, knowing this was exactly what Elizabeth wanted,” Jean said, adding, “She would have been elated with the outcome, as were we all.”
