A tragic incident unfolded at the Government Medical College in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir, as a shootout resulted in the death of a police officer and a notorious gangster. The encounter occurred when members of the Shunoo Group, reportedly led by Vasudev, were pursued by a police team and sought refuge within the hospital premises.
During the confrontation, gunfire ensued, leading to the demise of a gangster and critical injuries to Sub-Inspector Deepak Sharma. Despite receiving initial treatment in Kathua, Sharma was transferred to Pathankot, Punjab, for further medical attention. Regrettably, he succumbed to his injuries this morning, as confirmed by officials.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed his condolences and paid tribute to PSI Deepak Sharma, acknowledging his bravery in confronting and neutralizing a highly sought-after gangster in Kathua. Sinha pledged that the sacrifice made by Sharma would be remembered and honoured. He further emphasized the nation’s solidarity with the family of the fallen officer and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, asserting the commitment to creating a safe and secure environment in the region.
