Israel On Alert For Major Cyber Assaults On Iran’s Jerusalem Day

The Israel National Cyber Directorate has issued a warning regarding an uptick in cyberattacks ahead of Iranian Jerusalem Day, which falls on April 5. This year, amid the ongoing “Iron Swords” conflict with Hamas in Gaza, hostile online rhetoric has escalated, prompting calls for cyber assaults against Israeli individuals and organizations. The threat, organized under hashtags #OpJerusalem on April 5 and #OpIsrael on April 7, encourages global participation in attacks against Israel.

The Directorate anticipates a rise in website attacks, service disruptions, and the dissemination of false information. Iranian Jerusalem Day, observed annually on the last Friday of Ramadan, is marked by demonstrations in Iran and the Palestinian Authority, as well as cyber offensive actions against Israel.

During this period, attacks are often identified, typically less sophisticated and easier to execute on a large scale. These may include website defacement, takeover of smart home systems, distribution of phishing text messages, social network hacking, infiltration of company databases, information leaks, and the publication of fictitious attack claims.
