Assam Police made a significant drug bust in Karimganj district, seizing over 600 grams of heroin concealed within 50 soap boxes from a vehicle. Acting on intelligence, authorities arrested one individual in connection with the incident.
The operation, based on a tip-off, was carried out by the Karimganj district police at Kayasthagram under the Nilambazar police station. The intercepted vehicle, originating from a neighbouring state, was found to contain 601.83 grams of heroin hidden within soap boxes.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma commended the state police for their proactive stance against drug trafficking, lauding their efforts in the successful interception. He underscored the importance of such crackdowns in combating the drug menace.
In a separate incident on April 3, Assam Police apprehended a drug peddler in Nagaon district along with 576 grams of heroin. Acting on specific information, the Nagaon district police intercepted a bus, resulting in the arrest and seizure of the illicit substance.
Similarly, on April 2, Assam Police detained another drug peddler in Cachar district, seizing drugs worth Rs 25 lakh. Identified as Sahid Hussain Barbhuiya, the apprehended individual was found in possession of heroin, leading to further investigation.
