The Lahore High Court (LHC) received a detailed report from the jail superintendent concerning the security arrangements for Imran Khan, the chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, at Adiala Jail. As revealed by The Express Tribune, the report highlighted that the monthly expenses allocated for Imran Khan’s security surpassed Rs 1.2 million.
In a breakdown of the security provisions, the report outlined several amenities exclusively designated for Imran Khan within the jail premises. These include a specialized CCTV camera setup costing Rs 5,00,000, separate from the surveillance system monitoring the 7,000 other inmates. Moreover, his meals are prepared in a dedicated kitchen under the close supervision of the assistant superintendent, and they undergo scrutiny by a medical officer or deputy superintendent before being served.
Medical care for Imran Khan is overseen by a team of more than six doctors from Holy Family Hospital, ensuring regular check-ups and specialized attention as needed.
Imran Khan occupies two of the seven special cells available, with the remaining five kept closed to ensure security. The cells, designed to house 35 prisoners in normal circumstances, are part of the strict security measures implemented for his confinement.
Access to Imran Khan’s cell is heavily restricted, requiring prior authorization for entry. Trained personnel are deployed to ensure the security of his ward, with a dedicated section within the prison compound designated for his leisure activities, equipped with exercise machines and other amenities.
The Express Tribune also noted stringent visitor regulations and comprehensive security protocols during legal proceedings involving Imran Khan. Additional law enforcement units, including police, Rangers, and elite personnel, are stationed both inside and around Adiala Jail to maintain a safe environment for Imran Khan and other detainees.
Contrary to the typical ratio of one personnel for every ten prisoners in Adiala Jail, Imran Khan’s security detail comprises 15 personnel, including two security officers and three dedicated solely to his security, reflecting the heightened measures in place for his safety.
