According to sources within the party, the Congress in Rajasthan faced a significant blow as approximately 400 party members resigned from their primary memberships on Friday, leading to a state of crisis within the party. Additionally, the Congress formed an alliance with the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP) for the Nagaur Lok Sabha seat, leaving it vacant for the RLP.
The incumbent Nagaur MP and RLP Chief, Hanuman Beniwal, had initially been fielded by the Congress. However, three Congress workers were suspended for six years on Monday due to allegations of supporting BJP candidate Jyoti Mirdha from Nagaur. This suspension, based on a complaint by Beniwal, sparked discontent among Congress workers in Nagaur.
In protest against the suspension, the three Congress leaders, including former MLA Bhararam, Kuchera Municipality Chairperson Tejpal Mirdha, and Sukharam Dodwadiya, resigned from the party. Tejpal Mirdha, in a press conference, criticized the Congress’s decision to form an alliance with the RLP without local consent, attributing it to Hanuman Beniwal’s influence, whom he accused of attempting to dismantle the Congress in Nagaur.
Mirdha expressed dismay over the party’s unilateral decisions and lack of communication, asserting that the Congress was deviating from its traditional values. He emphasized the need for the party leadership to address internal concerns and accused Beniwal of labeling genuine Congress workers as BJP supporters without evidence.
The suspension of Tejpal Mirdha, who happens to be the cousin of Jyoti Mirdha, among others, occurred on Monday night, further exacerbating tensions within the party.
