Fresh Violence Erupts in Manipur as Kuki Terrorists Attack Inganglok Village, Kangpokpi and Imphal East Border

A fresh wave of violence erupted in Manipur when Kuki terrorists launched an attack on Inganglok village near Heirok, targeting Meitei residents. The incident occurred on Friday morning, triggering a fierce gun battle between the attackers and village volunteers.

According to reports, heavily armed Kuki militants from Genjang in Tengnoupal district descended upon Inganglok village, firing indiscriminately at the Meitei community. In response, courageous volunteers from the Meitei village retaliated, engaging in a prolonged exchange of gunfire with the assailants.

It is believed that over 200 armed Kuki militants had been stationed in Penjang, located near Genjang, for approximately a month, with intentions to launch attacks on Meitei villages. Genjang is situated about 18 kilometers away from Inganglok and 35 kilometers from Heirok.

Following the intense firefight, the Meitei village volunteers successfully forced the Kuki attackers to retreat. Pursuing the fleeing assailants, the volunteers chased them back to Genjang and surrounded the village by early morning. However, upon reaching Genjang, it was discovered that all the villagers had already evacuated their homes in search of safety.

Subsequent reports indicate that another skirmish occurred at Geljang, with the Kuki militants receiving reinforcements and support from Assam Rifles (AR) personnel.

In another incident of violence, gunfire was reported in Kangpokpi and Imphal East border on Saturday morning. According to police sources, “Kuki miscreants fired several rounds and shell explosives at 8:30 am from Kamuching, under Maphou Dam Police Station in Kangpokpi district towards Moirangpurel in Imphal East. In response, Moirangpurel village volunteers retaliated, and fortunately, no casualties have been reported thus far.”

The resurgence of violence in Manipur underscores the persistent security challenges faced by various communities in the region. Authorities are actively monitoring the situation and working to restore peace and stability amidst escalating tensions.
