Who Are The Hindujas And Why Are They Being Jailed? Explained!

Four members of the Indian-born billionaire Hinduja family were convicted on Friday at their Geneva villa in Switzerland

The Hinduja Group is a multi-billion dollar, transnational conglomerate with core areas of Investment Banking, International Trading and Global Investments.

Family members were accused of confiscating workers' passports, restricting their movement, and forcing them to work long hours for minimal pay in Switzerland.

The court found the four guilty of worker exploitation, unauthorized employment, minimal health benefits, and paying less than one-tenth of standard Swiss wages.

The family's lawyers denied the allegations, claiming staff were treated respectfully and given proper accommodation.

Swiss prosecutors raided the villa, Hinduja Bank offices, and other Hinduja Group businesses. With wealth of  $14 billion, they are among Asia's top 20 wealthiest families.

The Hindujas expressed their dismay at the Swiss court's decision, announced that an appeal has been filed in a higher court
