Jha, who had been battling deteriorating health, was airlifted to Delhi from Bhopal two weeks ago. Despite receiving medical attention, his condition worsened, leading to his untimely demise.
A Stalwart in Madhya Pradesh Politics
Prabhat Jha had a distinguished political career, serving as the Madhya Pradesh BJP president and later as the party’s national vice president. Known for his close connection with party workers, Jha was a leader who recognized each cadre member by name. His candid nature and willingness to speak his mind earned him respect and admiration within the party.
Hailing from Sitamarhi in Bihar, Jha made significant strides in Madhya Pradesh’s political landscape. He was appointed the state unit president in 2010, during a period when the BJP was striving to solidify its presence in the state. During his two-year tenure, Jha played a pivotal role in restructuring and strengthening the BJP’s cadre in Madhya Pradesh.
Contributions and Legacy
Jha also served two terms as a Rajya Sabha MP from Madhya Pradesh, further establishing his influence and commitment to the state’s political arena. Although he had not been given a prominent role in recent years, he remained actively involved with party workers and continued to make significant contributions to the BJP.
In an interview with IANS during the Assembly elections last November, Jha emphasized his aversion to factionalism, stating that he treated every worker equally. This egalitarian approach was a cornerstone of his leadership, fostering unity and loyalty among the party cadre.
Condolences and Tributes
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, state BJP Chief V. D. Sharma, and other party leaders expressed their deep condolences on Jha’s passing. In a heartfelt message on social media platform X, Chief Minister Yadav wrote, “Received very sad news about the demise of respected Shri Prabhat Jha, former state president and senior leader of Bharatiya Janata Party Madhya Pradesh. May Baba Mahakal give place to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family to bear the terrible loss. Your important role in the development of Madhya Pradesh will always inspire us. Your demise is an irreparable loss to the political world.”
