Mahesh Bhatt is widely regarded as one of the most popular names in the Hindi film industry. He enjoys a strong fan following because of his hard-hitting brand of storytelling and outspoken nature. In a recent interview, he addressed the lacklustre response to his last directorial venture ‘Sadak 2’ (202o) and opened up about his future plans.

Mahesh Bhatt Calls Himself ‘Outdated’

‘Sadak 2’ was one of the most eagerly-awaited films of 2020. It had created a buzz it was a sequel to ‘Sadak’. The film, however, failed to live up to expectations and received negative reviews from all corners. In a recent chat with Indian Express, the director addressed the lacklustre response to ‘Sadak 2’ and said that he has no plans of returning to filmmaking.

“I don’t have the thirst to leave my footprints on the sands of time, which is paramount in the entertainment world. Those who make it, have an insatiable thirst to leave their footprints on the sands of time. Vikram has it, Avika has it, I am outdated, a has-been,” he said.

Mahesh Bhatt redefined the grammar of Indian cinema during the peak years of his career with films such as ‘Naam’, ‘Criminal’, and ‘Zakhm’.

About ‘Sadak 2’

‘Sadak 2’ was an action-thriller that centres on Ravi Kishore Verma as he battles depression following a series of personal setbacks. He eventually teams up with some unlikely allies to take down a fake guru. Sanjay Dutt, Alia Bhatt, Jisshu, and Aditya Roy Kapur headlined the cast. ‘Sadak 2’ was produced by Mukesh Bhatt, Mahesh’s brother. The film premiered on Disney+ Hotstar in 2020 amid the Covid-19 pandemic and ended up being a massive letdown

Mahesh Bhatt is currently promoting ‘Bloody Ishq’, directed by Vikram Bhatt. The horror-thriller features Avika Gor and premiered on Disney+ Hotstar on July 26. Mahesh Bhatt has written its story.
