Wayanad Landslide: Death Toll Reaches 89, 123 Injured So Far

At least 89 people have been killed and 123 are injured after Kerala’s Wayanad district was struck by three landslides in four hours amid heavy rain on the early hours of Tuesday. Multiple agencies including NDRF have joined on the rescue operations in the hilly areas near Meppadi.

Hunderds of people are still feared trapped.

Earlier today, PM Modi spoke to Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan and promised all help from the Centre.

In a post on X he said, “Distressed by the landslides in parts of Wayanad. My thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones and prayers with those injured. Rescue ops are currently underway to assist all those affected. Spoke to Kerala CM Shri@pinarayivijayan and also assured all possible help from the Centre in the wake of the prevailing situation there.”


“The Prime Minister has announced ex-gratia of 2 lakh from Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased in the landslides in parts of Wayanad,” PM’s office stated in a statement.  The PM also said that the injured would receive 50,000.
