MP’s Chhatarpur Well Mishap: Four Workers Lose Lives In Suspected Gas Leak

Four persons died after falling unconsious due to a suspected poisonous gas leak inside a well in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur district on Friday, officials said.

The incident took place at Kurraha village under the jurisdiction of Garhi Malhara police station area in the district on Friday morning.

The deceased were identified as Sheikh Altaf (21), Sheikh Aslam (37), Sheikh Wasir (65) and Munna Kushwaha (45), the police said.

Chhatarpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Agam Jain told ANI, “An incident came to our notice from Kurraha village under Garhi Malhara police station where four persons died after getting unconscious in a well.

Our teams are on the spot. All the bodies have been sent for post-mortem. A case is being registered into the matter and further investigation is underway.”

Meanwhile, district hospital doctor Ashish Shukla said, “According to the family members, there was a 10 to 12 feet deep well in which they were working.

One person fell unconscious inside the well and others who went in after him to rescue him also fell unconscious and died.”

As per preliminary examination, it seems there was a poisonous gas leakage inside the well though bodies were sent for postmortem. Actual reason for the deaths will be ascertained after the postmortem report, the doctor said.
