Congress to Build 100+ Homes in Wayanad Following Massive Landslides

Congress MP and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi announced that the Congress party is committed to constructing over 100 houses in Wayanad, Kerala, which has been severely affected by recent landslides.

On Friday, Rahul Gandhi, accompanied by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, visited Mundakkai and Punchiri Mattam villages, which were hit by landslides in Wayanad district. They were briefed by the district administration and forest officers in Chooralmala, Meppadi.

Addressing the media, Rahul Gandhi expressed his commitment to building over 100 houses for displaced residents. He said, “I have been here since yesterday, and it’s a terrible tragedy. We had a meeting with the administration and panchayat, who updated us on the casualties, damaged houses, and their response strategy. We are here to help. The Congress party commits to building over 100 houses. This is an unprecedented tragedy for Kerala, and it will be addressed accordingly.”

Kerala Higher Education Minister R. Bindu announced that the National Service Scheme will volunteer to construct houses for 150 families affected by the landslides.

The landslides on July 30 caused widespread devastation in Wayanad, resulting in significant loss of life and property. The Indian Navy continues its rescue and relief operations, with an advanced light helicopter from INS Garuda conducting reconnaissance of the affected areas. The Indian Army has rescued four individuals from the rubble, including two men and two women, in a precise operation.

Kerala Health Minister Veena George confirmed 308 deaths due to the landslides, with 195 bodies and 113 body parts recovered so far.

The Indian Air Force will deploy C-130 aircraft from Hindon Air Base to Wayanad, carrying specialized drone systems and a team of experts for sub-soil evacuation monitoring. These drones will help locate people trapped under the soil.
