The two-day Conference of Governors wrapped up at Rashtrapati Bhavan on August 3, 2024, with President Droupadi Murmu praising the Governors for their collaborative efforts and insightful discussions.

In her closing remarks, President Murmu lauded the Governors for their valuable ideas and suggestions aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of their roles and advancing public welfare. She expressed confidence that these recommendations would be put into action.

On the second day of the conference, six groups of Governors presented their findings and proposed future strategies to President Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Vice President Dhankhar noted that the conference had made a significant impact, with participants delving deeply into crucial issues. He encouraged Governors to seek information actively and maintain ongoing communication with state governments to ensure effective governance.

Prime Minister Modi called on the Governors to develop an ideal model of governance for Raj Bhavans, emphasizing the need for consistent staff training and the adoption of technology and digitization. He also urged the Governors to leverage alumni networks from educational institutions and to initiate campaigns to combat drug abuse on campuses. Modi praised Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat’s model of natural farming and urged other Governors to adopt similar practices to make Raj Bhavans chemical-free. He envisioned Raj Bhavans as sources of inspiration and motivation.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah commended the Governors for their efforts and assured that actionable points from the conference would be addressed to enhance the effectiveness of Raj Bhavans.

President Murmu highlighted the importance of inclusive development, noting that progress in the country depends on the accelerated and inclusive development of states. She urged the Governors to ensure that public welfare programs reach every eligible citizen, emphasizing last-mile delivery to improve lives.

The President stressed that women’s participation is crucial for meaningful social inclusion. She advocated for empowering women through self-help groups and promoting women-led start-ups. She advised Governors to engage with active women entrepreneurs and institutions focused on women’s empowerment.

Additionally, President Murmu emphasized the need for better resource utilization for tribal welfare and encouraged Governors to prioritize this. She also urged Raj Bhavans to reflect Indian values, enhance public engagement through social and cultural events, and improve accessibility for common people.

Acknowledging the global recognition of India’s digital initiatives, President Murmu encouraged the use of digital tools in Raj Bhavans and suggested organizing seminars on cyber security and technological innovation.

Concluding her remarks, the President underscored the importance of effective coordination among institutions for public welfare and overall development. She expressed confidence that the Governors would foster cooperative federalism and mutual coordination between central and state institutions, setting exemplary standards for citizens.
